Science Library, shelved A-Z by title
For a Literature Search or to Find
Further Sources
1. Find Review Articles
Two of the major sources for review articles
are Accounts of Chemical Research and
Chemical Reviews. You
can search each of these online.
To search Accounts
of Chemical Research or Chemical
Reviews click
on the linked titles.
2. Finding more articles
*ACS
Journals
Index -
This site
indexes all of the ACS journals, many of which we
have in the Knox library. You will not be able to get to the full
text from this site. You use it to find citations to the
articles you need, and then you get them in the Science Library or via
Interlibrary Loan.
*ProQuest
This database indexes a number of important Chemistry
journals - there is some overlap with the ACS site, but other titles
are here as well. Some titles in here are in full text, for others you
will have to go to SMC or use ILL.
*Article First via
FirstSearch
Click on Article First in the list
This database indexes even more
Chem journals, but it has no abstracts, so all you have to go on is the
title.
*
EbscoHost
When Connected, choose "Full Text Journals" - then scroll down and
place a check mark next to Health Source : Nursing/Academic and then
click the "Continue" button.
This database also indexes a number of Chemistry
journals not in the other databases. A few will be in full text,
for others you will have to go to SMC or use ILL
*
Chemical Abstracts - For
this you need to Set up an appointment with the Chemistry Librarian to
search. The Chemical Abstracts database is the most
complete database that indexes Chemistry journals, but it is only
available by appointment with the Chemistry Librarian, Sharon Clayton.
Does Knox have the Journal and/or Is it
Available Full Text Online?
For Detailed instructiosn click on these links

http://library.knox.edu/FullText.html
To answer this question you have to do a couple of things.
For Print Holdings :
In some databases, such as Proquest, Article First, and EbscoHost - the
database will tell you if Knox has a PRINT subscription to the journal
the article is in.
In these cases you just check that, and if so you go to the appropriate
periodicals section in the Science Library. The current year's
periodicals are kept on the 1st floor of the Science Library, over by
the windows, in alphabetical order by the title of the journal.
The most recent issue is on the slanted shelf, which lifts up to reveal
the other recent issues. For the issues from previous
years, you will need to go to the 2nd floor of the Science Library, to
your right at the top of the stairs. This section is also
arranged A-Z by journal title.
Other databases, such as the ACS journal index, do not tell you if Knox
has a subscription. For items found in these databases, you must
look up the journal title in the Library Catalog. Use the "Title
Alphabetical" search, Click on the title in the list, AND scroll down
to check the holdings statement to see if the YEAR you need is there.
For Online Holdings:
Some databases, such as Proquest and EbscoHost, may have full text
links that you can click on. Others, such as the ACS site do not
allow access. And NONE of the databases has links to everything
that we have because even those databases with links only link to their
own full text.
So, to check if Knox has a journal online you must search for the
Journal title in the "EJournals" list on our website.
To get to the list pull down the "Quick Links" menu
Choose "EJournals"
Type in the journal title or the most unique words
from the Journal title - (this is JOURNAL title, not the ARTICLE)
If it comes up in the list, check the YEARS covered.
If the year you need is covered, then you can click
on the hotlink to the service that provides the online
subscription. Then you will need to search for the specific
ARTICLE you are looking for. The best way to
do this is with the most unique words from the article title.
Remember, no one database tells you about the holdings in other
databases even if they index the same journal.
